APPRENTICES

"I finally have an apprentice. Who are they and what do they do for me?"

-

An apprentice is a student that your character accepts and agrees to teach the skills to follow the character's own profession. This student is dedicated to the idea of following in the character's footsteps. With indullable reserve, the apprentice embarks on a quest of personal growth and acedemic achievement.
-
Life of an Apprentice
The apprentice leaves home at about age 12 so that they may begin the task of devoting long days to the seemingly menial tasks that compose a large part of the apprentice's duty. These duties are designed to develop the proper sense of ethics in the young apprentice. Generally the apprentice lives in quarters provided by the master (i.e. character). Apprenticeships usually end between 16 and 18 years of age. At that time the apprentice is considered an adult.

Apprentice in Game

As an NPC the apprentice is the one character that can be trusted implicitly by the character. They will only seek to aid and glorify of their master. They will only betray their master's will if coerced by magic or if it is ultimatly in the master's best interest. If a character chooses to take an apprentice before they are given an apprentice by levelm it is much more likly that they will be betrayed by the apprentice since the student's loyalty cannot be assured.

-

Apprentice Advancement

An apprentice begins the game with negative CRxCRx150 experience. Once the reach 0 or better experience points they have graduated and may continue their careers normally. Though an apprentice chooses their master's contour or contour combination they will not have the attribute bonuses or contour skills and abilities. They will gain these once they reach 0 level. They will temporarily have 5 starting skillls (no Primary skills) and -5 to all of their physical attributes and Willpower until they reach 0 level. At that time they will remove the attribute penalties of youth and add the modifiers of their contour.  They wioll have racial modifiers from the beginning, however. The skills may be traded in at 0 level when the apprentice develops his more permanent skills.

A typical human apprentice (sorcerer/warror CR:17) may look like this:

If an Apprentice Dies or Graduates

Suggestions for Gaming

If a character is retired at high level, it could be fun to play the character's apprentice and continue the character's saga. It is unlikly that the master would transfer owner of powerful magic because it is usually better for an apprentice to make their own way in the world. It is also arguable that an apprentice would not be given equipment that was valuable enough to the master to hold on to to begin with.

If an apprentice dies the character may choose a new apprentice in 1d3 levels.

If an apprentice graduates the character may choose a new one immediatly and gains an experience bonus of the CR x 1000. This experience bonus may not be further modified by the character's experience point bonus.
