The Tingler: Review
I use a skull and crosses, rating system, where one is the lowest ranking and three is the highest in each category. Crosses judge quality and acting/plot believability, while skulls relate to chills, thrills, and basic horror elements.
The Tingler
Total Score 2.0 Skulls/3.0 Crosses
The Tingler is a classic horror movie directed by William Castle. It is known for its creepy and campy elements that are sure to give you a few thrills. Despite being a staple in the genre, many people have never seen it, including my wife and myself. It’s a simple story about a medical examiner who is professor who discover a beast born of fear that threatens us all. Vincent Price delivers his usual cool and collected performance, while the supporting cast skillfully immerses the audience in the mental mayhem caused by a lack of fear response. The Tingler is over-the-top and worth watching, although it may be too unreasonable for some. William Castle’s signature fourth-wall-breaking warning to the audience adds to the experience. Overall, it’s a classic dark gem that horror fans should not miss. The author gives it a rating of 2 skulls due to its unreasonableness but also gives it 3 crosses for the skillful way the actors bring the story to life.
Vincent Price is brilliant in this. The premise, that of a being created in the human body when fear does not have an outlet is a bit silly, but the writers of the script sold the idea using broad science terms and leaps of logic only Vincent Price could deliver and make you believe, maybe it could be real? I though it a fun watch. Thank you for introducing it to me.,
