Tactical Tuesday: Supply Depot Strike
Strike Location: Shadowroot Supply Depot

“Alright, squad, this ain’t a beach vacation. You’re heading straight into the belly of the beast. The Shadowroot Supply Depot is your target. It’s hidden deep in the jungle, crawling with bad guys, and jam-packed with intel we need and supplies we can’t let them keep. Gear up, stick together, and follow the plan. This one’s gonna test every ounce of grit you’ve got.”
Location Overview
The Shadowroot Supply Depot is a vital supply hub for the enemy, buried under the dense canopy of the jungle. It’s fortified, but not invincible. The depot connects key supply routes and houses stolen goods, weapons, and critical intel about future troop movements. It’s flanked by rushing rivers and swampy terrain that make frontal assaults a non-starter. Stealth and precision will be your bread and butter here.
The depot itself is a mix of rickety wooden buildings and camouflaged supply tents. Guards patrol the area regularly, and watchtowers peek through the treetops, scanning for intruders. Beneath the depot lies an underground storage bunker guarded by a reinforced hatch, rumored to hold a stash of enemy communications logs and maps.
Objective:
- Primary Goal: Retrieve enemy communication logs and disrupt supply operations.
- Secondary Goal: Identify key figures running the operation and extract valuable intel through quick, improvisational interrogation.
- Tertiary Goal: Destroy weapons and ammo caches to cripple future operations.
Terrain and Challenges
“Walking into Shadowroot isn’t a cakewalk. The jungle here? It’s alive and it doesn’t like you. If the bad guys don’t get you, the terrain sure as hell will. Step smart.”
- The Jungle Maze
The jungle’s thick, filled with creeping vines, towering trees, and pockets of dense mist. Visibility is limited, and sound carries in unexpected ways. Lose your bearings here, and you’ll wish you hadn’t. - Raging Riverbanks
A fast-flowing river cuts between the squad’s entry point and the depot. Crossing it means wrestling the current while avoiding predators lurking beneath the surface. A rickety rope bridge nearby might help—but it looks like it hasn’t seen maintenance since forever. - Swampy Mire
Surrounding part of the depot is a swampy bog, filled with sucking mud and air that reeks of rot. Stepping off the narrow, winding paths is a ticket to getting stuck, or worse, sinking entirely. - Enemy Reinforcements
The depot is linked to a nearby encampment just a few miles away. Trigger the alarm, and a wave of reinforcements could be on you before you have time to exfil. - Unstable Terrain
Loud detonations or heavy movement can cause parts of the depot’s underground bunker to collapse. Proceed carefully, or risk sealing off vital objectives.
Enemy Presence
“These guys? They’re no greenhorns. You’ve got guards, patrols, and a commander who’s itching to keep his cushy gig at any cost. They know the jungle, so don’t get sloppy.”
- Regular Patrols
Small squads patrol the depot in rotations. They’re armed with rifles and keep a keen eye out for intruders. Take them out quietly, or risk alerting the entire base. - Scout Snipers
A pair of snipers keep watch from the edges of the depot, hidden in the towering trees. Their positions are well-camouflaged, but their lasers give them away if you’re sharp enough to spot them. - Command Officer
The depot’s officer may not be the toughest fighter, but he’s got the information you need. If captured, he’ll require some convincing to spill what he knows, but it’s worth the time if you play it right.
Opportunities and Obstacles
“You’re taking on a tough nut, sure. But even the best defenses have cracks. Find ’em, use ’em, and get outta there in one piece.”
- Weak Points
- The watchtowers are the depot’s eyes and ears. If you can take them out, the enemy will be blind to your movements.
- Supply crates are scattered across the depot with potential explosives hidden amongst them. Use them as impromptu tools for sabotage.
- State-of-the-Art Radio
Inside the command hut is a long-range radio set. It’s your ticket to uploading vital intel back to HQ or calling for a staged extraction to cover your retreat. - Hidden Threats
The depot employs local guides who act as trackers and hunters. Their knowledge of the jungle is second to none. They rarely stay in one place for long, but crossing paths with one can mean trouble. - Escape Tunnels
Underneath the bunker lies a trapdoor leading to a network of dark jungle tunnels. If cornered, the enemy may try to flee into these tunnels, taking vital intel with them. Those brave enough to pursue face a labyrinth of danger.
GM Tips
“Running this strike mission? It’s all about pacing. Keep the tension high, give ‘em room to think, and hit ‘em hard when they least expect it.”
- Use Environmental Obstacles
The jungle is as much an enemy as the guards are. Make the players think about every move. Crossing slippery riverbanks or navigating through the swamp shouldn’t feel routine. - Encourage Team Strategy
The watchtowers, snipers, and patrols create a ticking clock of discovery. Forcing players to work together will make success feel earned and organic. - Build the Stakes
Raise the tension by introducing moral choices. Do they focus resources on sabotaging supplies or extracting all the intel they can? What happens if reinforcements get called while they’re split up?
Victory Outcomes
When the dust settles, the squad’s performance affects what happens next in the campaign. Did they extract the command officer’s intel? Did they sabotage enough supplies to slow enemy operations? Or did they barely scrape by with their lives? Each decision they make matters, turning Shadowroot into a critical pivot point in their jungle campaign.
“Alright, they’ve had their fun at Shadowroot. Now it’s time to show ‘em what a real commando squad’s made of. Bring everything you’ve got to that table, and make every moment at the depot unforgettable.”
